  • Your PDF stays in this browser while the tool runs.
  • Encrypted or damaged PDFs may need to be unlocked or repaired before this tool can read them.
  • This tool preserves page artwork where possible, but it does not rewrite original PDF text like a word processor.
  • Direct text editing keeps the original font when it supports the replacement. Missing characters use a matching bundled family or a similar serif, sans-serif, or monospace font, with size, color, and baseline position preserved.
  • Horizontal text runs split across adjacent top-level PDF objects are edited together. Nested form objects, rotated text, vertical text, and scanned pages are rejected rather than visually replaced.
  • Text selection expands along one line using matching size, weight, style, and color, including compatible Chinese and Latin font runs. Larger gaps, style changes, and detected table borders keep selections separate. Editing a combined selection lays out the replacement as continuous text within its box.
  • Type 3 font descriptors are used to distinguish bold, regular, and other recorded weights when the native font API omits them. Different anonymous font resources remain separate when their style cannot be established.
  • The replacement must be one line and fit within the resizable text box. The font library covers common Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, and Chinese text. Fonts load from this site only when needed; the PDF stays in your browser. Characters unavailable in the library are rejected.
  • Replaced text remains selectable and searchable. Font substitution changes the appearance of that line and is noted in the preview.
  • Added text uses the same font library and stays selectable, including Chinese. Latin families have regular, bold, italic, and bold italic faces; Chinese families use regular or bold. Unavailable weights or styles use the nearest bundled face.
  • Text selections are previewed independently, so one unsupported edit is highlighted without hiding other valid changes.
  • Annotate includes text highlights, underline, strikeout, squiggly marks, insertion/replacement suggestions, pen, ink highlighter, text boxes, notes, callouts, stamps, and shapes. Exported marks include PDF annotation data and appearances. Erase removes marks added in the current session; imported annotations are displayed but are not editable here.
  • Text marks snap to selectable characters while dragging, continue across lines, and stop at text boundaries. Dragging through blank space does not create a mark; use Pen or Highlighter for freehand marks.
  • Sign draws handwriting directly on the page, with adjustable color, line width, and opacity. Nearby strokes form one movable signature. It does not create a digital certificate signature.
  • Text styles include font family, size, bold, italic, underline, strikeout, alignment, color, opacity, and links. Added text boxes also support vertical alignment. Original-text edits stay on one line; surrounding paragraphs and later pages do not automatically reflow.
  • PDF annotations appear above page content. Forward and Backward arrange marks within the annotation layer, or added text and images within the page-content layer.
  • The editor supports up to 200 elements across the document in one export.
  • Embedded editor images are limited to PNG and JPEG and stay in this browser.

See how privacy works

Is Edit PDF free to use?

Yes. This tool is free to use in your browser and does not require an account.

Are my files private?

Edit PDF uses PDF.js viewer, PDFium WASM text editor, and pdf-lib annotations in the browser. Selected files are processed locally when the required browser features are available, while application, library, model, security, and limited analytics requests may load separately.

What limits should I know about?

1 file · 100 MB max · 500 pages max. Encrypted or damaged PDFs may need to be unlocked or repaired before this tool can read them.

Can this editor change existing PDF paragraphs?

It can replace horizontal selectable text in place. The replacement stays inside its text box; nearby content and later pages do not reflow like a word processor.

Can I make several changes before downloading?

Yes. Add multiple elements across multiple pages, use undo or layer controls, then export all edits in one PDF.
